Music at St. Joseph
Music is a vital component in the celebrating of liturgies at St. Joseph Church as well being a very important part of our parish/community life.
We have many opportunities for singers and instrumental musicians to use their music talents to serve God through our choir programs and ensembles.
For those who love music but who may not be able to participate as a musician, there are also many ways in you can support the music programs at St. Joseph.
Our Third Thursday Organ Interludes and our regular St. Joseph Concert Series events each year are a vital part of our music life, reaching several hundred people each year. Information about the Third Thursday Organ Interludes is partially complete, awaiting confirmation of dates from some performers. Information about our main concert series will be posted in the near future.
From this page you will easily be able to access all relevant music and choir related events in our parish.
Memorial Bookplates for St. Michael Hymnals
Orders can be taken at any time for memorial bookplates to be placed in ourSt. Michael Hymnals. Bookplates can be placed in memory of someone, in honor of (or thanksgiving for) someone, or as a gift. This is a beautiful way to remember someone who has died or who has been important in our lives. Many people have commented on the joy of sitting in different places in the church, picking up a hymnal that is in that pew rack, and smiling as they read a name that brings back wonderful memories.
If you would like to place a bookplate in one of our hymnals in memory of a family member or friend, in honor of (or thanksgiving for) someone, or as a gift to the church, you can find order forms in the church or from the church office. You can also download a form from this page. The cost is $10 to place one in a pew hymnal and $20 to place one in a choir hymnal. All proceeds go to the Choirs of St. Joseph.
The names of those who are being remembered are listed regularly below the Music Notes section of our Sunday bulletin.
St. Joseph Choirs and Parish Pilgrimage
December 30, 2015 - January 7, 2016
Amalfi Area Rome Orvieto
The Choirs of St. Joseph and Friends made a Pilgrimage to the Heart of Italy and the Amalfi Coast during the Christmas Season of 2015. We had the opportunity to sing both private and public Masses in some of the most beautiful and historic churches in the Naples, Sorrento, and Amalfi areas. Arriving in Naples on New Year's Eve, we sang the noon Mass on January 1st for the Feast of Mary, Mother of God, in one of the beautiful cathedrals in the Naples area. On Saturday we toured the Amalfi area, visiting the ruins of Pompeii as well as Monte Casino and the 5th century Abbey where the Benedictine Order was founded in 529 by St. Benedict. There we will had the opportunity to attend the 12PM Sunday Mass sung by the Benedictine Monks before returning to Rome on Sunday evening. On Monday, we toured Rome, singing a Mass in the Church of St. Peter-in-Chains in the afternoon. On Tuesday we enjoyed a day tour of the city of Orvieto, set atop an island of volcanic rock in the middle of the Tiber Valley. Here we sang a Mass at the beautiful cathedral. And finally, on Wednesday, our trip was highlighted by attendance at the Papal Mass for the Feast of the Epiphany, celebrated by the Holy Father in the Basilica of St. Peter.
If you are interested in joining us as a singer on a future pilgrimage, please contact Nelda Chapman at 478.745.1631 ext. 120 or email@example.com.
We also welcome non-singers to go and experience this beautiful journey through the churches and regions so important in our history.
