St. Joseph’s Parish Council, with the approval of Fr. McDonald and Bishop Boland, has adopted a new model which will go into effect this spring. St. Joseph’s has had a parish council since 1978 but the constitution has not been updated since 1997. The new St. Joseph’s Pastoral Council will have 6 members elected by parishioners and 3 members appointed by the pastor.
It is important to know that the Pastoral Council is an advisory body, not a governing body. However, by establishing the Pastoral Council, our pastor acknowledges the wisdom of parishioners and his desire to share with them the governance of the parish. The major task of the Pastoral Council is pastoral planning. The Pastoral Council will investigate and consider many different types of pastoral matters and make recommendations to the pastor.
